Gaddafi's personal gun was most likely part of a 2009 arms deal between Belgium and Libya. A deal licensed by the Walloon Regional Government (who happens to be the one and only shareholder of Belgian arms manufacturer FN Herstal) because the guns were going to “escort humanitarian convoys to Darfur." In the period 2004-2009 Belgium supplied 18 million EUR worth of small arms to Libya. Way too much, but a lot less than the 600 million EUR supplied by Italy, France and the UK for anything up to military planes. No wonder both Italy and the UK were pushing hard to lift the EU's weapon embargo in 2004. And after arming him, all these countries readily joined the war on Gaddafi.
