07/02/2006 If the US were to be these European adventurers grown into a gun crazy nation of undereducated religious nuts, then Canada -as its more respectful and better educated neighbour- would be the fine example that there was another way.
It is easy hard to fall for the first cliché, given the US's readiness to go to war on a religious note, but let's for a moment concentrate on the paradise called Canada, and on the Vancouver conceptual art scene.
Predominantly men, who are into landscapes and photography, performance, and of course into concepts.
To my surprise several of their works directly document and question contemporary social reality. So not just trees upside down or double focused colonial history, but also the bulldozering of Canadian homes, outbursts of sports hooliganism and the disappearence of women.
