12/01/2007 Buying a digital camera sucks.
Tell you something new?
Here's what: I was reasonably happy with my Canon S70 with its 28mm equivalent and its soft macro backgrounds.
But it doesn't exist anymore, its succesor can't save in RAW format, the 'digital negative'.
So on to the SD800, with
28mm but a lousy perfomer in the dark.
So on to the Canon G7, an excellent higher ASA performer, which starts at ... 35mm.
So on to the 28mm equivalent Leica lens on a Lumix-Panasonic or on a Leica... another noise generator at 400asa.
Now what.
Sigma DP1?
Anounced for next Spring: a plastic looking body with a zoomless 28mm
that uses a 14 MPix sensor to produce a 5MPix image with great colour potential.
Price unknown.
The full frame EOS5
could carry my -newly bought and yet to arrive- Zeiss lenses,
with an adaptor ring that tricks the camera into focus confirmation
... at the price of Powerbook G5
